Of Lordnapping and Elf Shaming…

OMG, ya’ll, I have to admit it – this stuff is funny! True, it’s usually NSFW, but ’tis the season to be jolly!!!!

I’m a Christian, but I’m a prankster. I think almost everything is funny, or can be made so. I don’t take Christmas so seriously that I think Christmas or Holiday pranks aren’t funny – they’re wonderful as long as there’s not crime involved.

OF LORDNAPPING & ELF SHAMING

First of all, let’s visit the “Lordnapping” prank:

“Away In A Manger” – it’s not just a song, it’s a crime. Lordnappers are pranksters that bear nonsense and myrrh.

Basically, Lordnapping is temporarily moving or removing the “Baby Jesus” from a Christmas nativity scene; some actually steal and destroy the item, which isn’t funny, but most only temporarily ‘borrow’ the Lord, only to return him on Christmas Eve. Some of these “Baby Jesus” dolls end up going on adventures, although some stay in more comfortable homes…or so the prankster justifies. Some mischief makers revel in the fun by taking Jesus on a road trip – something akin to “Flat Stanley”, and they take photos and show their Facebook friends what they’ve done. And yes, this is all evidence against them.

The newsworthy stories are both negative and positive, but here’s one on the light-hearted side – thankfully, the owners of the nativity scene had a great sense of humor about the whole thing. On the down side, these Alabama pranksters essentially stole the entire nativity scene and transported to a school – mmm, I do not condone, as thou shalt not steal. However, the big picture is important, and Christmas is now under surveillance.

Of note, it’s a worldwide phenomena <?>, as this latest news report is from England:  Pranksters steal Jesus from nativity scene at Manchester Airport.

Nativity sans Christ

LordNapping on Twitter – they describe their mission this way: “Every year, hundreds of God’s children set out to liberate Baby Jesus from nativity sets everywhere. We are here to help spread their illegal yet Holy work.”

Elf Shaming – a cute concept that seeks to reveal the embarrassing aftereffects of what the “Elf on the Shelf” saw or did in your home.

You know this elf – he’s the family narc who tells Santa if you’ve been naughty or nice. He/She should be reminded of the First Rule of the Street: “Snitches Get Stitches”. This elf shaming invites you to take photos of your elf, at times caught en flagrante, creating mischief on your shelf, in your kids’ toyboxin your sink, and most certainly, in your drawers.

There are great sites with great photos of said shaming, but the grandfather of all is ElfShaming.com:

I didn’t see this until this year, but they do have DARK ELVES – er, rather, dark-complexioned elves. YAY!!!! They have a boy and girl in “dark”. There should be a multiplicity of colors in my estimation, but that’s just me.

Blogger and humorist mom “The Bearded Iris” really brings it home with this gem:

Kitty and Elf “Dobbie” have a laugh with Scrabble

Further the fun with Baby Rabies’ “Inappropriate Elf” contest. Do a Google search on #InappropriateElf and see what I mean!

The Innapropriate Elf on Facebook – “Taking the very sweet Christmas tradition of the Elf on the Shelf and twisting it beyond all recognition.”

MERRY CHRISTMAS, YA’LL!!!!
