David Bowie – Videos Before Their Time

David Bowie, aka David Jones, was a pioneer in music videos. He always had theatrical, artistic looking movies, almost. He even admitted to being a mime trapped in a man’s body!

I just thought I’d put together a little compilation of videos I though were very unique:

1969 – “Love You ‘Til Tuesday”

1969 – Space Oddity (Original Video)

1974 – “Life On Mars”

1977 – “Heroes” – and how many commercials use this song? Well, the toned-down, less angst-ridden version…

1979 “I Am A D.J. (I am what I play)

1980 “Fashion”

1980 – “Ashes To Ashes”

1983 – “China Girl” – As a teen, I remember a major controversy with this one. It was reviled for sounded misogynistic or racist – fetishization of Asian women, white supremacy, and mentions swastikas. Actually, it’s not glamorizing, it’s pointing out how racist people can be…just watch. Iggy Pop co-wrote this.

1984 – “Blue Jean”

1987 – “Day-In Day-Out” – another one loaded with controversy. This one was banned in the US. Just watch it…notice how it could’ve been filmed today.

BONUS VIDEOS:

1977 – “Heroes” from the Bing Crosby Merrie Olde Christmas Special

Bing Crosby & David Bowie – “The Little Drummer Boy (Peace On Earth)”

David Bowie Funny Moments – Part I, II, III
